Welcome Home, Montavus!

Montavus spent much of his childhood searching for a place to belong.
He entered the foster care system when he was just four years old, one of five siblings who were separated after entering care. When Montavus was around seven, his mother tragically passed away in a car accident. Over the years he moved between placements, including time in relative care until he was fifteen, but he never truly had a place that felt like home.
Today, Montavus is working hard to build a different future.
Through Wellroot Family Services, Montavus entered a transitional housing program and began working toward independence. Since October, he has worked with a housing navigator to secure an apartment of his own while continuing to work and save for a car, often relying on rides from friends to get to his job.
Montavus is also a proud father to two young sons, ages 18 months and 3 years old. His boys will spend about half of their time with him in his new home, making this apartment more than just housing — it’s a place where he can build stability and create a safe, loving environment for his children.
Rooted Interiors had the honor of transforming Montavus’ empty apartment into a fully furnished home, and the impact of that moment was unforgettable. During the reveal, Montavus couldn’t stop smiling. At one point he laughed and said his cheeks were actually hurting from smiling so much.
It’s often the small things that make the biggest difference.
A trash can in the kitchen. A toaster oven on the counter. A Falcons flag hanging proudly in his bedroom. And for the first time in a long time — an actual bed to sleep in.
Those details may seem simple, but to Montavus they meant everything. He felt the love behind every piece placed in his home.
This transformation was made possible thanks to incredible community partners. A special thank you to Exchange Bank for donating the sofa, Legacy Lodge at Lanier Islands for providing the mattress set, and an anonymous donor who gifted Bibles for the home.
Montavus dreams of becoming a mechanic and is committed to building a stable future for his family. Through Wellroot’s program, he will continue receiving rental assistance, life skills training, supportive services, and case management as he works toward long-term self-sufficiency.
For the first time in his life, Montavus has something he has been searching for since childhood — a place to call home.
And for him and his boys, this is just the beginning.
